Who is responsible for your information

Finance Ethics LLC, 7124 Commons Dr, Cheyenne, WY 82009, United States, is responsible for the personal information described in this policy. In some laws this role is called the controller. You can reach us about privacy at hello@financeethics.com or (307) 365-5252.

This policy covers financeethics.com and the inquiry form on it. Information we receive from clients during an engagement, such as the ledger exports used in Full-Ledger Analytics, is governed by the engagement agreement and by the data policies on our principles page, including deletion of client data 90 days after an engagement closes unless the client asks otherwise in writing.

What we collect

Information you send us. When you use the inquiry form we collect your name, email address, organization and message. If you email or call us, we receive whatever you choose to include. Please do not send account numbers, passwords or other sensitive data through the form.

Aggregate site statistics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views. It does not use cookies or similar storage on your device, and it does not build a profile of you across sites. We see totals such as pages viewed, referring sites, browser types and countries, not individual visitors.

Technical data needed to deliver the site. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address and request details to deliver pages and protect the site against attacks and automated abuse. We do not use this data to identify you.

What we do not collect

  • We use no advertising trackers, social media pixels or cross-site tracking of any kind.
  • We do not set cookies for analytics or advertising.
  • Our free tools, including the Controls Health Self-Check, run entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter in them is sent to us or stored.
  • We do not buy personal information, and we do not sell or share it for targeted advertising.

How we use your information

We use the information you send us to reply to your inquiry, to scope and arrange any work you ask about, and to keep a record of our correspondence. We use aggregate statistics to understand which pages are useful and to keep the site working and secure. We do not use your inquiry to train AI models, and we do not add you to a mailing list unless you ask to join one.

Where a law such as the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation requires a legal basis, we rely on:

  • steps you ask us to take before a contract, when you inquire about working with us;
  • our legitimate interests in answering correspondence, running and securing the site, and understanding its use in aggregate, balanced against your rights;
  • legal obligations, where we must keep records or respond to lawful requests;
  • your consent, where we ask for it, which you can withdraw at any time.

Who receives your information

We share personal information only with service providers that process it on our behalf and under contract. Cloudflare, Inc. hosts this site, provides the analytics described above and handles the delivery of form submissions and email to us. These providers may only use the information to provide their services to us.

We may also disclose information to professional advisers bound by confidentiality, when the law requires it, to protect our rights or the safety of others, or as part of a sale or reorganization of our business, in which case this policy would continue to apply. We do not otherwise share, rent or sell personal information.

How long we keep it

  • Inquiries that do not lead to an engagement: up to 24 months after our last contact, then deleted.
  • Inquiries that lead to an engagement: kept with the engagement records, under the engagement agreement and our client data policies.
  • Records the law requires us to keep: for the period the law sets, such as for tax and accounting.
  • Aggregate statistics: these do not identify individuals and are kept in aggregate form only.

How we protect it

Access to inquiries is limited to the people at Finance Ethics who need it to respond. Our systems use encrypted connections, and access to client environments is logged. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we will tell you without undue delay if a breach affects your information and the law requires notice.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

  • know what personal information we hold about you and receive a copy;
  • correct information that is inaccurate;
  • delete your information;
  • object to or restrict some uses, and withdraw consent where we rely on it;
  • receive your information in a portable format;
  • opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information, targeted advertising and certain profiling.

Residents of US states with consumer privacy laws, including California, have rights along these lines. We do not sell or share personal information and do not use it for targeted advertising or profiling, so there is nothing to opt out of today; we treat a Global Privacy Control signal as a valid opt-out request regardless. Residents of the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland have rights under their data protection laws, including the right to complain to their local supervisory authority.

To make a request, email hello@financeethics.com. We may need to confirm your identity before acting, and you may use an authorized agent where the law allows. We respond within the time the applicable law requires, and we will not treat you differently for exercising a right.

International transfers

We are based in the United States and our providers may process information in the United States and other countries. If you contact us from outside the United States, your information is transferred to and handled in the United States, with the safeguards the applicable law requires.

Children

This site is meant for business users. It is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant and we hold your contact details, we will tell you before it takes effect.
